Inspiration from our Designer:
A period of introspection cast by months of COVID lockdowns led to the idea of symmetry as a symbol of mindfulness and centredness. The series begins with Tulips on Black Linen, an Art Deco influenced design with stylised shapes. The black linen represents the darkness of isolation. Out of that isolation comes the realisation that introspection can be a source of creativity—expressed by the flowering tulip bulbs. Blue toned shimmering tulips printed with specially blended PERMASET® Inks communicate the surreal experience of lockdown as once vibrant cities become ghost towns. As the months dragged on an acceptance and centredness emerged—symbolised by the symmetry and low contrast of foreground and background in the design of Agapanthus and Freesia on Flax Linen. The escaping Agapanthus flowers (top centre) express optimism that release from lockdown is nigh. The series ends with Nasturtium on White Linen, an asymmetric fluid design expressing release from constraints in celebratory colours of gold and olive green.
